CLEVELAND – Competing at home for the final time until early November, the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team (10-12) picked up a 3-0 victory versus Oberlin College (8-12) on Wednesday evening at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The Spartans won by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-10.
Case now embarks on a season-long eight-match road trip and won't play again at Horsburgh Gymnasium until the 2013 home finale on November 2.
The key moment in the match came early on as the Spartans trailed 21-13 then 24-20 in the opening set. Undaunted, Case reeled off six points in a row to claim the game.
For the match, Case had one of its most efficient hitting performances of the season with a .309 attack percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) led the effort with 10 kills, and sophomore setter Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) directed the offense with 28 assists.
Defensively, sophomore libero Katie Best (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) totaled 13 of her team's 48 digs.
Oberlin was led by Christine Antonsen with seven kills and Meredith Lueng with 20 assists.
The Spartans are now idle until next Wednesday, October 16 at Hiram College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
