    PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Seventy-nine Case Western Reserve University student-athletes were named to the 2012 University Athletic Association Fall All-Academic Team. Within the UAA, All-Academic Recognition is awarded to student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college study and who carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.300.

    ATLANTA – Senior libero Rachel Gulasey (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) broke the school career record for digs as the Case Western Reserve University volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the 2012 University Athletic Association Championship Tournament at Woodruff Physical Education Center. The fourth-seeded Spartans defeated No. 5 seed Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) in five, but fell to top-seeded and No. 6 nationally-ranked Emory University (Ga.) in four.

    CLEVELAND – Case Western Reserve University student-athletes took a break from their rigorous academic and athletic schedules to serve the community on Friday, October 19 in conjunction with the university’s 10th-annual “Case for Community Day.” Spartan student-athletes did their part by welcoming more than 125 elementary school students from the Cleveland area for various sports clinics in and around the Veale Center.

The Spartans rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upend New York University, 3-2, but fell in the finale versus No. 12 nationally-ranked University of Chicago, 3-1.

The Spartans won the last time the Bears were ranked No. 1 in 2010.

Wise Center. The Spartans defeated Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, by a count of 3-1, then fell to tourney champion, Thiel College (Pa.), 3-2. For her efforts over the weekend, freshman outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
