Spartans Track & Field Closes Competition at the Seventh-Annual CWRU Spartan Holiday Classic

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition on Saturday afternoon at the Seventh-Annual CWRU Spartan Holiday Classic.

The men and women combined to total 14 first-place finishes at the meet, with the men contributing 10 and the women tallying four.

Sophomore Juan Perez led the men as he placed first in the 60-meter dash (7.19) and finished first in the 200-meter dash (23.46). In addition, Perez teamed with first-year Keith Cartwright, first-year Keith Roberts and junior Musa Hakim Jr. to claim the title in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:35.75. The men also added a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Cartwright, junior Daniel Grasing, first-year Joe Jaster and first-year Putu Randy Radiarta crossed the finish line with a time of 3:34.64.

Six other Spartan men tallied first-place finishes on Saturday, as senior Dominic Oddo won the long jump (6.76m), senior Brian Holden claimed the title in the weight throw (14.97m), junior Luke Traverso placed first in the pole vault (3.80m), first-year Eli Fragnoli won the 60-meter hurdles (8.77), senior Michael Hradesky claimed the title in the 1,000-meter run (2:35.08) and senior Grant McCarthy placed first in the mile-run (4:35.54).

The Spartan men also turned in 13 other top three performances throughout the meet. Those performances included sophomore Ben Brisman (third, 13.13m) in the weight throw, Holden (second, 13.09m) in the shot put, junior Jordan Butler (third, 6.33m) in the long jump, junior Ryan Burns (second, 3.65m) in the pole vault, Oddo (second, 1.85m) and Butler (third, 1.80m) in the high jump, Oddo (second, 8.79) in the 60-meter hurdles, senior Jonathan Haling (second, 7.20) in the 60-meter dash, Grasing (second, 2:38.51) and sophomore Kyler Barnard (third, 2:39.63) in the 1,000-meter run, first-year Liam O'Reilly (second, 4:49.80) in the mile-run, and Roberts (second, 51.96) and Oddo (third, 52.63) in the 400-meter dash.

For the women, first-year Mia Vargo won the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters, first-year Catherine Phillips claimed the title in the mile-run with a time of 5:59.46 and junior Madison Vargo placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.94. In addition, the women's 4x200-meter relay team of Mia Vargo, senior Bailey Flint, senior Samantha Kelts and junior Julie Hines placed first in the event with a time of 1:54.51.

Other top three performances for the women throughout the meet came from Kelts in the triple jump (second, 10.68m), Hines in the 400-meter dash (third, 1:02.21), Flint in the high jump (third, 1.50m), junior Taylor Jackson in the shot put (second, 11.65m) and junior Jasmine Floyd in the 60-meter dash (third, 8.39).

Case Western Reserve will resume competition in the new year, with a road meet on Saturday, January 18th at the Dave Lehmen Invite in Westerville, Ohio.
