Laios Named Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year

Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios of the women's track and field took home an award from the latest announcement by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as she was recognized as the Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year.

Laios is ranked third nationally in the hammer at 55.96m (183-7) and ninth nationally in the shot put at 14.20m (46-7¼). She qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in each of those events, as well as in the discus, where she is ranked 15th nationally (45.11m). Laios amassed 32 points at the NCAA DIII All-Ohio Championships.

In addition, all three of Laios' marks in the hammer, shot put and discus were best among Great Lakes Region competitors.

Laios, junior Dominic Oddo and sophomore Trey Razanauskas will represent the Spartans at the DIII Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Thursday-Saturday, May 23-35 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
