Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios was named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for women's field events, following her performance at the Harrison Dillard Twilight at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio this past weekend.
Laios topped her program-best mark in the hammer throw and also set a new school-record in the discus at the Harrison Dillard Twilight on Friday. Laios finished third in the hammer with a mark of 55.96 meters, smashing her previous school-record mark of 55.05 meters set earlier this season. In addition, Laios added a first-place finish in the discus with a new school-record mark of 45.11 meters, which bests the previous school record of 44.02 meters set by Elizabeth Ehrke back in 2007. She closed out the day by placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.95 meters. Laios currently ranks first among all NCAA Division III competitors in the hammer throw and 15th in the discus, while her mark of 14.20 meters in shot put currently ranks seventh in Division III.
This was Laios' 17th-career UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
