Two more school records fell for the Spartans on Friday, as Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios topped her program-best mark in the hammer throw and set a new school-record in the discus at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio on Friday.
Laios finished third in the hammer with a mark of 55.96 meters, smashing her previous school-record mark of 55.05 meters set earlier this season. In addition, Laios added a first-place finish in the discus with a new school-record mark of 45.11 meters, which bests the previous school record of 44.02 meters set by Elizabeth Ehrke back in 2007. She closed out her by placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.95 meters.
Other top performers for the Spartan women at the Harrison Dillard Twilight were senior Shannon Carroll in the javelin (second, 40.09m) and in the long jump (fourth, 4.90m), senior Olivia Newman in the long jump (fifth, 4.73m) and in the 200-meter dash (sixth, 26.26), senior Isabel Torres-Padin in the 1,500-meter run (10th, 4:54.35), senior Ellen Sears in the 5,000-meter run (fifth, 18:41.29) and senior Sophie Trikeriotis in the 5,000-meter run (eighth, 18:57.35).
For the men at the meet, senior Ananth Suresh took the title in the triple jump with a mark of 13.83 meters, sophomore Dmytro Blundell was the runner up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:46.13 and junior Jonathan Haling added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.99 meters) and a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.89).
Meanwhile, at the Dr. Keeler Invitational, hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, freshman Logan Singer earned a 25th-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a new personal-best time of 3:57.51.
The Spartans will look to improve on their NCAA qualifying times next week, when the team travels to Delaware, Ohio for the Great Lakes Elite Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday, May 16th, and the Gregory Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on Wednesday, May 15th – Thursday, May 16th.
