Graduate student Cassandra Laios of the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team has been named the University Athletic Association women's field athlete of the week for the fifth-straight week and 16th-time overall for her career, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Laios claimed All-Ohio honors in three separate events this past weekend at the 2019 All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Delaware, Ohio. Laios earned first-place in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.05 meters to best her previous school record of 54.52 meters set last weekend. Laios added another All-Ohio honor in the shot put, placing second with a toss of 13.29 meters, and in the discus by finishing second with a mark of 42.08 meters.
Laios' mark in the hammer currently ranks first in the UAA and first among all NCAA Division III competitors. In addition, her mark of 42.08 meters in the discus ranks first in the UAA and 23rd among Division III competitors.
The Spartans will now prepare to host the CWRU Invitational on Saturday, April 20th at DiSanto Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
