Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's field, following her performance at the 2019 W&L Carnival, hosted by Washington and Lee University, in Lexington, Virginia on Friday and Saturday.
Laios set a new school record mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 51.62 meters to claim the title in the event. That mark bests her previous school record of 51.30 meters which was set in 2017. She also added a first place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.65 meters, and claimed second in the discus throw with a mark of 38.80 meters.
Laios currently ranks first among all University Athletic Association competitors in the hammer throw, shot put and the discus throw. In addition, she has the best mark among all NCAA Division III competitors in the hammer throw, the third-best mark in the shot put and the 11th-best mark in the discus throw.
This was Laios' 12th UAA Athlete of the Week honor of her career.
