Graduate student Cassandra Laios of the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team has been named the University Athletic Association women's field athlete of the week for the second straight week and 11th-time overall for her career, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Laios led the Spartan women to a fifth-place finish at the 2019 All-Ohio Indoor Championships on Saturday in Westerville, Ohio. She claimed the title in the weight throw with a new school-record mark of 18.05 meters, besting her previous school record of 17.92 meters set at last season's All-Ohio Indoor Championships. She also added a first-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.09 meters.
Laios' mark of 18.05 meters in the weight throw currently ranks first among all University Athletic Association competitors and fourth among all Division III competitors.
The Spartans will be back in action this weekend as they head to the Kent State Tune Up at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio on Saturday, February 16th.
