Case Western Reserve University graduate student Cassandra Laios was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's field, following her performance at the 2019 Bob Shannon Invitational on Saturday.
Laios swept the throwing events to help the Spartan women place fourth out of 14 teams at the meet. She won the weight throw with a mark of 16.73 meters and then took first in the shot put with a toss of 13.79 meters. Both her throws in the weight throw and shot put rank first among UAA competitors this week.
For the season, Laios currently ranks seventh among all NCAA Division III competitors in the shot put (13.92 meters) and eighth in the weight throw (17.08 meters).
This was Laios' 10th UAA Athlete of the Week honor of her career.
The Spartans track and field teams are back in action this Friday, February 8th as they travel to Berea, Ohio for the Mid-February Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
