The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams are prepared to travel to Geneva, Ohio for the 2019 SPIRE Invitational on Saturday, January 19th, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in the SPIRE Performance facility.
The Spartans are looking forward to another weekend of competition after last competing at the YSU Icebreaker on December 7th. The men's and women's teams combined to send 16 athletes to the meet.
Graduate student Cassandra Laios led the CWRU women at the meet as she finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.90 meters. In addition, she also earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.79 meters. Also with strong performances for the Spartan women, junior Shahed Eid finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:12.42) and junior Samantha Kelts placed 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.52 meters.
The Spartan men earned three top-ten finishes at the meet, as junior Michael Hradesky finished fifth in the 800-meter run (1:56.02), junior Jonathan Haling placed eighth in the 400-meter dash (49.50) and senior Ananth Suresh finished ninth in the triple jump (12.69m).
