Case Western Reserve University will head to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2018 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University from Saturday, April 28th through Sunday, April 29th.

Field events at the UAA Championships are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. start on Saturday, with running events commencing at 12:00 p.m. Action will resume on Sunday, with field events starting at 9:00 a.m., and competition on the track beginning at 11:30 a.m. The final event at the meet – the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay will begin at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday.
Last season, the Spartan men placed third out of seven teams at the meet, with Carnegie Mellon winning the UAA Championship, and Washington placing second. Returning All-UAA performers from last year's meet for the Spartan men include senior Sam Merriman, who finished first in the 5,000-meter run, and sophomore Dominic Oddo, who claimed the UAA title in the long jump. In addition, senior Grant Mlack finished second in the 400-meter hurdles, junior Ananth Suresh finished third in the triple jump, and sophomore Brian Holden placed second in the javelin throw.
Entering this year's meet, the Spartans have 11 potential entrants ranked in the top-five of men's events in the UAA this season. Leading the way is Oddo, who is the top-seeded competitor in the long jump (6.80 meters). Mlack is also third in both the 110-meter hurdles (15.20 seconds) and the 400-meter hurdles (55.20 seconds), while senior Andrew Ibibo is fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.49 seconds) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.20 seconds). Mlack and Ibibo have also teamed with sophomore Jonathan Haling and sophomore Michael Hradesky for the second-best 4x400-meter relay time (3:20.79).
Haling is also fifth in the 400-meter dash (49.80), while other top-five competitors for the CWRU men this year include freshman Jordan Butler in the high jump (third, 1.93m), senior Zak Hurd in the long jump (third, 6.53m), senior Alex Nesvisky in the shot put (third, 13.77m) and in the hammer throw (third, 45.60m), and junior Tyler Bushman in the hammer throw (second, 47.68m). In addition, Hurd has also teamed with senior Ben Zelkin, sophomore Darius Inzar and freshman Joe Dinko for the second-best 4x100-meter relay time (43.10).
The CWRU women placed fourth in the team standings at last year's UAA Outdoor Championships, with Washington winning the meet, followed by Chicago in second and Emory in third. Junior Shannon Carroll will enter the meet after claiming two All-UAA honors last year with a second-place finish in the javelin throw and a third-place finish in shot put.
Carroll will enter this year's meet as the top-seeded performer in the javelin throw (36.78m). Senior Danielle Kulpins has the top time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:40.17) and fourth-best time in the 5,000-meter run (17:23.40), while other top-five performances this season by an UAA athlete have been notched by senior Nimi Gupta in the hammer (first, 47.59m), sophomore Madeline Lindemann in the 10,000-meter run (third, 37:45.82), senior Rachel Willard in the triple jump (fifth, 11.08m), freshman Emma Hammelef in the shot put (third, 11.10m) and in the hammer (fifth, 40.52m), freshman Taylor Jackson in the discus throw (third, 37.39m), junior Marina Yu in the hammer (fourth, 42.65m) and freshman Eleanor Gaddy in the javelin (fifth, 29.48m).
In addition, senior Skylar Braga, junior Sarah Stottner, sophomore Bari Love and freshman Julie Hines teamed up for the fifth-best 4x100-meter relay time (51.62), and Hines also teamed with senior Marie-Louise Kloster, sophomore Brianna Rees and sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn for the fifth-best time in the 4x400-meter relay (4:11.30).
