Highlighting the Spartan performances on Saturday, senior Grant Mlack finished tied for first in the 60-meter hurdles as the Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field team finished competition at the Mount Union Tune Up in Alliance, Ohio.
Finishing tied for first in the event, Mlack crossed the finish line with a time of 8.10.
Also with strong performances for the Spartan men, freshmen Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro finished second in the 3,000-meter run (9:06.41) and sophomore Jonathan Haling finished second in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:07.93.
Sophomore Dominic Oddo tied for third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20 and placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.75 meters, while freshman Kai Fletcher finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.91 meters.
The Spartan women earned four first-place finishes at the meet, as senior Cassandra Laios won the shot put (13.12m), freshman Julie Hines claimed the title in the 400-meter dash (1:02.16), senior Nimi Gupta won the weight throw (15.05m) and senior Rachel Laveson finished first in the 5,000-meter run (19:19.09).
In addition, sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn earned a second-place finish in the one-mile run (5:17.17) and sophomore Samantha Kelts finished second in the triple jump (10.23m). Senior Skylar Braga placed third in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters, while sophomore Shahed Eid finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.41.
Case Western Reserve will now prepare to host the 2018 University Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships from February 24th – 25th at the Veale Center on the CWRU campus.
