The Case Western Reserve University women's outdoor track and field team concluded the 2016 outdoor season with many noteworthy performances, including the nine All-UAA honors at the University Athletic Association Championships.

During the two-day conference championships, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, junior Temi Omilabu and senior Kristen Ruckstuhl each claimed championships.  Omilabu won the hammer throw, setting a school record with a mark of 49.01 meters, breaking the previous school-record mark of 47.50 meters, set by former Spartan Diana Kovacic during the 2004 season.  Ruckstuhl added a UAA title in the 10,000-meter run for the second-consecutive year, after becoming the program's first UAA Championship winner in the event in 2015.  She finished first in the event with a time of 36:52.33, over 46 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.

Sophomore Rachael Collins added All-UAA honors in a pair of events with third-place finishes in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.31 meters and the javelin throw with a mark of 35.76 meters.  Sophomore Cassandra Laios also tallied a pair of All-UAA honors, finishing second in the discus throw, notching a mark of 38.08 meters, and third in the shot put with a toss of 11.85 meters.

Senior Christen Saccucci tied for third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a height of 3.36 meters to earn All-UAA honors in the event, and in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Danielle Kulpins claimed an All-UAA finish, placing third with a time of 11:22.67.  In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Olivia Newman recorded a career-best time of 1:03.50, placing third overall.

Two members of the women's outdoor track and field team also received All-Great Lakes Region recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), based on their performances during the 2016 outdoor season. Spartans receiving All-Region honors included Newman in the 400-meter hurdles and Ruckstuhl in the 10,000-meter run.

Ruckstuhl was fourth in the Great Lakes Region and 25th in Division III in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:25.66 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on May 12th, while Newman fifth in the region and tied for 33rd in Division III with a time of 1:03.18 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Gator Invitational.

Two other program records were set during the 2016 outdoor campaign by the Spartan women.  Newman recorded a time of 58.17 seconds in the 400-meter dash at the All-Ohio Championships, breaking a 24-year old school record in the event. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kulpins broke the school record twice during the season, ending the year with a mark of 11:10.89 in the event at the Dr. Keeler Invitational.

Senior Kelsey Aamoth was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District and Academic All-America Cross Country/ Track and Field Team for her athletic and academic achievements over her collegiate career.  Academically, Aamoth has recorded a 3.91 grade point average as a biomedical engineering major, and has a 4.0 grade point average as a graduate student at CWRU.  She is a two-time USTFCCCA Scholar-Athlete awardee and has been recognized on nine occasions as a UAA All-Academic honoree.

In addition to their work on the track, the Spartans were recognized as a team for their academic achievements, as the team received All-Academic Honors by the USTFCCCA with a team grade point average of 3.55, the 17th-best among the programs receiving All-Academic status. Ruckstuhl and Newman claimed individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for being ranked in the top-35 in the nation in an event, while also maintaining a GPA of at least 3.3.  In addition, 25 members of the Case Western Reserve women's outdoor track and field team received Spring UAA All-Academic recognition.
