Case Western Reserve University freshman sprinter Rasheed Ajala and sophomore thrower Cassandra Laios were named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for track and field, following their performances at the season-ending Great Lakes Elite Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on Thursday.
Ajala ran the anchor leg of the Spartans' 4x100-meter relay team, which broke the school record in the event with a time of 41.88 seconds, while finishing third overall. He also placed fourth in the finals of the 100-meter dash, setting a new personal-best time of 10.96 seconds. This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
Laios finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.21 meters, setting a new personal-best mark in the event. She added a 10th-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 36.70 meters. This was her third UAA Athlete of the Week honor, each of which has come in the last three weeks.
