Spartan Women Finish 4th in UAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships

ATLANTA - The Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team finished fourth overall with 112 points at the 2015 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Emory University at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

After winning the 10,000-meter run yesterday morning, senior Kristen Ruckstuhl (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) grabbed a second place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:05.65. Junior Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Solon) also scored points for the Spartans in the 5K with a time of 18:19.32 for fourth place.

Senior Rachel Tan (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished second in the 100-meter hurdles crossing the finish line with a time of 15.15 and eighth in the 100-meter dash  with a time of 12.82. In the field, Tan cleared the bar of the high jump with a final mark of 1.57 meters for sixth place.

Also in the 100-meter dash, freshman Skylar Braga (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) finished seventh with a time of 12.77.

In the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, senior McKenzie Braun (Omaha, Neb./West Side) and freshman Marie-Louise Kolste (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished with times of 1:07.70 and 1:11.93 for fifth and eighth place, respectively.

Junior Ashley Leyden (Atco, N.J./St. Joseph) hopped, skipped and jumped 10.92 meters to finish third in the triple jump. In the javelin, freshman Rachael Collins (Cave Creek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) finished in sixth with a throw of 29.72 meters.

Adding to a collection of points towards the Spartans total score on day one, freshman Cassandra Laios (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 38.65 meters. Also scoring in the shotput, sophomore Temi Omilabu (Katy, Texas/Seven Hills) finished fifth with a throw of 33.47 meters, while senior Emeline Liu (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) and freshman Nimi Gupta (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) took seventh and eighth with tosses of 32.61 meters and 32.28 meters, respectively.

The Spartans will begin their postseason stretch beginning on Friday, May 8 at the Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.
