Spartan Women in Fourth Place After Day One of UAA Championship

CHICAGO – Junior Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed third in the pole vault, and the Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team ranks fourth of seven after one day of the 2014 University Athletic Association Championship at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.

The University of Chicago leads the field with 78 points, while Washington University in St. Louis is in second with 67.5 points. Emory University (Ga.) sits in third place with a tally of 37, and the Spartans are next with 31.5 points.

Herzog vaulted a height of 10 feet, six inches to collect six points in the team scoring. Fellow vaulter, sophomore Christen Saccucci (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), placed fifth after clearing a height of just over 10 feet.

On the track, senior Brooke Simpson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and sophomore Evy Hail (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River) finished fourth and fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with respective times of 11:31.19 and 11:47.10. 

The second and final day of the UAA Championship begins at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
