Aamoth Leads Spartan Women in Tie for Sixth at All-Ohio Championship

DELAWARE, Ohio – Sophomore Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Solon) won the 5,000-meter run and placed runner-up in the 1,500m event to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team to a tie for sixth place at the 2014 All-Ohio Championship at Selby Stadium.

The University of Mount Union won the team title with 136 points. Host Ohio Wesleyan University (123), Baldwin Wallace University (114.50), Defiance College (77) and Otterbein University (69) rounded out the top five in front of the Spartans' 41 points. John Carroll University also finished with 41.

Aamoth beat 23 other competitors in the 5,000m field with a time of 18:06.99. She ran in second position out of the 23 student-athletes in the 1,500m with a mark of 4:40.61.

Also earning All-Ohio honors was sophomore Lydia Greene (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) with a third-place time of 40:48.41 in the grueling 10,000m run.

Senior Brooke Simpson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) placed in the top five in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:34.02), while sophomore Emily Harker (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) turned in a fourth-place showing in the high jump (five feet, one and three-quarter inches). Harker competed in last week's All-Ohio heptathlon in Alliance.

The Spartans have one more regular season meet, and that is next Saturday, April 19 at the Sparky Adams Invitational at 10:00 a.m. in Berea.
