DELAWARE, Ohio – Junior Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) broke the school record in the pole vault, and the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team placed seventh of 10 at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Spartans scored 53 points, just one behind sixth-place Capital University. Host Ohio Wesleyan won the event with a score of 198, while Baldwin Wallace University (100.5), Ohio Northern University (84.50), Heidelberg University (81) and Denison University (67) rounded out the top five.
Herzog vaulted a height of 11 feet, one and three quarters of an inch to finish second. The previous outdoor school record (10'11.5") set by sophomore teammate Christen Saccucci (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) last season.
Along with Herzog, three other Spartans turned in individual top-three finishes.
In the field, junior Rachel Tan (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished third in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4'10.25", while sophomore Asante Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) placed third in the triple jump at 33'1.25".
On the track, senior Gavriella Pora (Nampa, Idaho/Liberty Charter) was part of two top-three finishes. Individually, Pora placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.75 and third with the 4x400m relay that finished in 4:15.57. Sophomore Abby Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), senior Brooke Simpson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and sophomore Taylor O'Neil (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) rounded out the 4x400 team.
CWRU next competes at the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, April 12 right back at Ohio Wesleyan's Selby Stadium.
