Simpson and Aamoth Win Events, Spartan Women Open Outdoor Season at W&L Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. — Led by individual wins from senior Brooke Simpson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) and sophomore Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Solon), the Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team opened the 2014 outdoor season at the Washington & Lee University Carnival.  

Simpson, the school record-holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, won her signature event with a time of 11:56.10. Aamoth, who set a school indoor record the last time she competed, won the 5,000m run in a personal-best time of 17:48.53.

In the field, three other Spartans earned top-three finishes.

Sophomore Christen Saccucci (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) and junior Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished second and third in the pole vault as each cleared 10 feet, six and one-quarter inches.

Sophomore Asante Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 34'4.25".

CWRU will next compete on Saturday, March 29 at the Don Frail Invitational hosted by Marietta College at Don Drumm Stadium.
