WALTHAM, Mass. – Led by fourth-place individual finishes from juniors Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Keri Walter (Cairo, Egypt/Cairo American), the Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team ranks fourth of seven after day one of the 2014 University Athletic Association Indoor Championship at Gosman Athletic Center.
Washington University in St. Louis leads the team scoring with 46 points. University of Chicago ranks second (39), and New York University is third (24) ahead of the Spartans' 15 markers.
Both Herzog and Walter just missed out on individual All-UAA honors. Herzog cleared the bar at 10 feet, 10 and one-half inches in the pole vault, while Walter leapt to a career-best mark of 16'6.75" in the long jump.
Also in the field, senior Christina Tam (Trinidad and Tobago/Bishops) finished fifth in the weight throw at 41'6".
Scoring on the track, the Spartans' distance medley relay placed fourth in a season-best 12:21.40. Freshman Olivia Zabrodsky (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) ran leadoff and was followed by junior McKenzie Braun (Omaha, Neb./West Side), freshman Abby Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and sophomore Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Solon).
