The duo of juniors Nicole Cardwell and Trisha Sundaram advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships on Friday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Cardwell and Sudaram, the fifth-seeded duo in the draw, reached the semifinals of the doubles bracket with a round of 16 win over Sydney Jackson and Leah Newhof of Hope College (8-7), and then followed that with an 8-5 win over first-seeded Eugenia Lee and Catherine Xu of Chicago.
Cardwell and Sudaram will now face third-seeded Daria Beshentseva and Erika Oku of Kenyon in the semifinals on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
Junior Madeleine Paolucci and freshman Savannah Bright defeated Kenyon's Ilana Blackwood and Anna Winslow 8-5 in the round of 16, but fell to fifth-seeded Claudia Ng and Perene Wang of Chicago (8-2) in the quarterfinals.
In singles play, Bright fell to first-seeded Erika Oku (6-2, 6-1) of Kenyon in the round of 16, while Sundaram lost to sixth-seeded Daria Beshentseva (6-1, 6-2) of Kenyon in the round of 16.
In addition, Cardwell defeated Augustana's Michaela Magee 6-0, 6-2 in the consolation second round and then claimed a win over Kenyon's Megan Collins (7-6 (3), 6-3) in the consolation quarterfinals. Cardwell will now face DePauw's Lillian Cameron in the consolation semifinals on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Action at the ITA Central Regionals will resume on Saturday.
