The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team competed on the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Regional Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Thursday, September 19th.
Two singles players advanced in the main 64-players draw, while both doubles teams competing advanced in the 32-team doubles draw.
The duo of junior Madeleine Paolucci and freshman Savannah Bright, seeded fourth in the draw, topped Trine's Ellie Cole and Ashley Spirrison 8-2. Juniors Nicole Cardwell and Trisha Sundaram also advanced to the round of 16 on Friday, earning an 8-5 win over DePauw's Erin Friedrich and Amanda Showalter.
In singles play, ninth-seeded Sundaram claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hanover's Cami Jones and earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Augustana's Annie Timm. Bright added a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Denison's Monique Brual and then followed that with a 7-6 (6), 6-1 victory over Lake Forest's Julie Lord.
Paolucci earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Denison's Sarah Robertson in the round of 64, but fell to WashU's Divya Sharma 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 in the round of 32. Cardwell dropped a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 match to Kenyon's Kayla Pukys in the round of 64, but then came back to earn a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Trine's Kyra Braun in the consolation round.
Action at the ITA Regional will resume Friday morning.
