The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, currently ranked 31st in Division III, claimed a 7-2 win over Oberlin College at the Carlton Tennis Courts in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans improved to 6-7 on the season with the win, while Oberlin dropped to 4-11 for the campaign. With the win, CWRU snapped a three-match losing streak.
Case Western Reserve took two out of the three doubles matches on Saturday, as freshmen Sneha Karnam and Shreyaa Mukund topped Claudia Olaes and Maja Shaw Todorovic 8-2 at second doubles and freshmen Nidhi Jha and Kristin Jones earned an 8-4 victory over Alandria Bellamy and Hannah Keidan at third doubles. The Spartans lone loss in doubles came at first doubles, as sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell suffered an 8-4 loss to Delaney Black and Francesca Kern.
The Spartans went on to win five of the six singles matches. Cardwell earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Black at first singles, with Karnam claiming a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Bellamy at second singles. In the third singles match, Mukund picked up a victory over Kern, 6-2, 6-2. Jha then earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Olaes at fourth singles and Jones notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Keidan at sixth singles.
CWRU's lone loss in singles play came at fifth singles, where Shaw Todorovic bested freshman Eliza Georgiades 6-2, 6-3.
