For the first time in her career, Case Western Reserve University sophomore Madeleine Paolucci was selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's tennis, after winning each of her three singles matches and also posting a 2-1 record in doubles play for the 31st-ranked Spartans this past weekend.
Paolucci played first singles in all three matches, and teamed with sophomore Nicole Cardwell at first doubles throughout the weekend. In Friday's match against 11th-ranked Kenyon, she earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Erika Oku in singles play, and added an 8-4 victory in doubles action. On Sunday against 25th-ranked Swarthmore, Paolucci claimed victories of 8-5 in doubles and 6-0, 6-1 in singles.
Paolucci leads the team with a 16-5 overall record in singles play, while also recording a 14-7 overall record in doubles play.
Case Western Reserve will now return to Cleveland on Saturday, April 6th against Oberlin College. The match is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start at the Carlton Courts.
