30th-Ranked Women’s Tennis to Play Three Matches this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 30th in Division III, will be back in action with three matches this weekend, as they travel to Gambier, Ohio on Friday, March 29th to face 22nd-ranked Kenyon College at 5:00 p.m. and then face 15th-ranked Swarthmore College on Saturday, March 30th at 10:00 a.m. in Gambier. The Spartans will then head to Granville, Ohio on Sunday, March 31st to take on 28th-ranked Denison University at 11:00 a.m.

Case Western Reserve is 5-4 overall this season, including a 2-1 home record, 0-1 road record and a 3-2 ledger in neutral site contests. The Spartans have already played three matches against nationally-ranked opponents, playing 39th-ranked Hope College (February 16th), seventh-ranked Wesleyan (March 12th) and third-ranked Amherst (March 13th).

Sophomore Madeleine Paolucci (13-5) is the team's leader in singles victories this year, while sophomore Mira Amin (9-7) and freshman Nidhi Jha (9-6) have each totaled nine victories this season. As a team, the Spartans are 57-46 in singles matches this year, good for a .553 winning percentage. In doubles action, the Spartans are 26-24 overall, good for a .520 winning percentage.

Kenyon is 6-2 on the year, including a 2-0 home mark. The team is coming off of wins against 25th-ranked Washington and Lee University and the 19th-ranked University of Mary Washington. The team is led by Erika Oku who is 10-4 overall, and 7-1 at first singles. The Spartans and the Ladies last met during the 2016-17 season, with CWRU claiming a 5-4 win over Kenyon.

Swarthmore is 4-3 overall this season, and 2-1 in neutral site contests. The team is coming off a 9-0 loss to 26th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday. The team's lineup features Vivien Fernandez-Ravelo who has posted a 4-1 record in singles play and 4-1 record in doubles play.

Denison is 7-4 on the year, including a 2-0 home mark, and is coming off a 9-0 win over 39th-ranked Wellesley on March 22nd. The Big Red will face Kenyon on Tuesday and Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, before hosting the Spartans on Sunday. The team is led by Lauren Hawley, who has posted an 8-8 singles record and has also teamed with Emma Alsup to post a 13-4 doubles record. The Spartans and Big Red met last season, with CWRU claiming an 8-1 win over Denison.
