The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 29th in Division III, concluded their third day of spring break with a 9-0 loss to seventh-ranked Wesleyan University (Conn.) in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans dropped to 4-3 on the campaign with the loss, while the Cardinals raised their record to 3-0.
At first doubles, sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell were able to take three games from Victoria Yu and Kristina Yu. Freshmen Nidhi Jha and Shreyaa Mukund were also able to take three games from Alexis Amy and Alissa Nakamoto at third doubles.
In singles play, Paolucci took 15th-ranked Victoria Yu to three sets but was unable to come away with victory as she fell, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5. In addition, Cardwell was able to take two games in the first set and four games in the second set at third singles, but eventually fell to Polina Kiseleva.
Case Western Reserve will conclude their spring break trip on Wednesday, when the team plays against third-ranked Amherst College at 11:30 a.m. and when the squad takes on Austin College at 5:00 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.
