16th-Ranked Women’s Tennis Heads to Florida for Spring Break Trip

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team will travel to Florida for their spring break trip from March 11th-13th. They are scheduled to play four matches in three days, including two matches against nationally-ranked opponents.

The Spartans, who are currently ranked 16th in Division III, have opened the spring season with a 2-2 record. Case Western Reserve has tallied wins against Kalamazoo College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, including a 9-0 victory over Kalamazoo on February 17th.

CWRU is slated to open up play with a match against Millsaps College on Monday, March 11th at 6:30 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center. From there, the Spartans will play sixth-ranked Wesleyan University on Tuesday, March 12th at 11:30 a.m. CWRU will wrap-up the trip on Wednesday, March 13th with a 3:00 p.m. match against third-ranked Amherst College and a 7:00 p.m. match against Austin College.

Millsaps has opened the 2019 season with an overall record of 7-0. The team's lineup will feature sophomore Grace Gaskins who currently has a 2-0 record at first singles and a 3-1 record at first doubles.

Wesleyan will open up their spring season on March 10th in Florida, as they face Kenyon College. Freshman Venia Yeung finished the fall season ranked fourth among all Division III women's singles players, while freshman Kristina Yu ranks ninth and senior Victoria Yu ranks 15th. In addition, the doubles duo of Kristina Yu and Victoria Yu finished fall as the fifth-ranked doubles team in Division III.

Amherst (1-0) will have a match against Kenyon on Saturday, face Carnegie Mellon University on Monday and play Washington University on Tuesday before facing CWRU on Wednesday. The Mammoths lineup features freshman Jackie Bukzin, ranked third among Division III singles players, and freshman Claire Evans, ranked 16th in Division III. Bukzin and Evans are also the seventh-ranked doubles pairing in Division III.

Austin (2-1) opens up play in Florida on Tuesday against Oglethorpe and Ohio Wesleyan. Sophomore Melody Duong is ranked 49th among Division III singles players after she advanced through three rounds of the ITA Women's Division III Southwest Regional Singles Championships this past September.
