The duo of senior Jessica Liu and sophomore Madeleine Paolucci advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional Championships on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Liu and Paolucci, the third-seeded duo in the draw, reached the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket with a round of 32 win over Grace Hederick and Brigitte Hodge of Washington (Mo.) University (8-5), and then followed that with an 8-2 win over North Central's Hannah Hougland and Alana Kanthaphixay.
Liu and Paolucci will now face ninth-seeded Annika Panday and Nicole Semenny of Chicgo in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Freshmen Sneha Karnam and Shreyaa Mukund defeated Trine's Tatum Matthews and Ashley Spirrison 8-3 in the round of 32, but fell to first seeded Marjorie Antohi and Claire Handa of Chicago (8-0) in the round of 16. Sophomore Mira Amin and freshman Nidhi Jha fell to ninth-seeded Lisa Chionis and Stephanie Ren of WashU (8-3) in the round of 32 on Saturday.
In singles play, Liu defeated Denison's Emma Alsup 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 32, but fell to Chicago's Annika Pandey 6-2, 6-0 in the round of 16.
In addition, Jha lost to Ohio Wesleyan's Lauren Corcoran (seeded 9th) 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 32, while Karnam fell to Claire Hollock of Hope College 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32.
Action at the ITA Central Regionals will resume on Sunday.
