For the first time in her career, Case Western Reserve University freshman Shreyaa Mukund was selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's tennis, after claiming a 2-1 record in singles matches and picking up two doubles victories at the Oberlin Invitational this past weekend.
Mukund topped West Liberty's Anita Ponti 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 and also defeated Oberlin's Rainie Heck 4-2, 4-3 (3-0). In doubles action, Mukund teamed with freshman Sneha Karnam to defeat West Liberty's Ponti and Luisa Agudelo 8-3, and then claimed an 8-4 victory over IUP's Mariana Valenzuela and Maria Magraner.
Mukund begins her collegiate career with 2-1 records in both singles and doubles play.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action from Friday, September 21st through Monday, September 24th when the team travels to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the ITA Central Region Fall Championships.
