The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team was ranked 15th in the final Oracle/ Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III rankings, released by the organization last week.
The Spartans went 15-4 during the year, and earned six victories over teams that were nationally-ranked at the time of play. Late in the campaign, the team went 2-1 at the University Athletic Association Championships, finishing fifth in the conference standings. Case Western Reserve also checked in at third in the final Central Region rankings.
Individually, a pair of Spartans were featured in the final singles polls. Senior Nithya Kanagasegar, who played at first singles throughout the season for CWRU and finished her career as third in school history in singles victories with a 56-48 record. She was ranked 36th in Division III and seventh in the Central Region. Kanagasegar also was selected to compete in her fourth-straight NCAA Singles Championships. Freshman and no. 2 singles player Madeleine Paolucci, who was 16-11 on the year, was ranked 20th in the Central Region.
In the doubles rankings, Kanagasegar and Paolucci checked in at tied for 10th in the final Division III rankings, and were the second-ranked duo in the Central Region. The pairing, which earned All-America honors following a quarterfinals berth at the NCAA Championships, finished the year with a 23-9 record together, matching the program record for doubles victories in a season. Kanagasegar leaves the program as its all-time leader in doubles wins with a 76-32 career ledger.
