Draws Released for NCAA DIII Women’s Singles & Doubles Championships

SINGLES DRAW | DOUBLES DRAW

Case Western Reserve University senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci received their opening-round assignments for the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships in Claremont, California, which will begin on Thursday, May 24th.

Kanagasegar, who is ranked eighth in the Central Region, will open play in the singles draw against Wesleyan College's Victoria Yu, ranked 10th in the Northeast Region.  Kanagasegar has a 15-12 overall record this season, including an 11-7 mark in the spring as the team's no. 1 doubles player, while ranking third in school history in career singles victories with a 56-47 record.  The winner of the match will advance to the next round to face the winner of the first-round contest between Trinity's (Texas) Caroline Kutach and seventh-seeded Tess Trinka.

The 32-player singles tournament is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. PT on Thursday, to be followed by the round of 16 at 2:00 p.m. PT.

In addition, Kanagasegar will be competing with Paolucci in the doubles draw, and will open play in the tournament against the University of Mary Washington's Ashley Barrow and Kait Brogan, who are the second-ranked duo in the Atlantic South Region.  This will be the second time this season the two duos have faced each other, with Barrow and Brogan edging Kanagasegar and Paolucci 8-7 (4) during a dual match on March 17th.  At 22-8 together on the season, the Spartans' duo (ranked fourth in the Central Region) is just one win away from matching the program's record for doubles wins in a single season.

Doubles action on Thursday is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. PT.  The winner of the match will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday, facing the winner of the first-round match between Wesleyan's top-seeded duo of Eudice Chong and Yu and Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Action at the NCAA Championships will continue Friday with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals, along with the doubles quarterfinals.  The final day of competition on Saturday will feature the singles finals and the semifinals and finals of the doubles tournament.  All of the matches throughout the singles and doubles tournaments are scheduled to be played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the Claremont McKenna College campus.  Fans can follow the action with live results and video at https://webapps.cmc.edu/livescore/.

Results and a full recap of CWRU's performances at the event will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition each day.
