Case Western Reserve University senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci were selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Individual Championships from May 24th -26th at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.
Kanagasegar was among the 32 players selected to compete in the singles draw. In addition, she will compete with Paolucci in the doubles draw, consisting of 16 teams. The draw for individual championships, along with seeding, will be released on May 23rd, the last day of the team championships.
Kanagasegar was ranked eighth in singles play in the latest ITA Central Region poll. Playing at first singles throughout the season, she went 15-12 during the campaign, raising her career record to 56-47.
In doubles action, Kanagasegar and Paolucci went 22-8 together, including a 15-4 mark in first doubles matches. The duo is ranked third in the Central Region, and is coming off a perfect 3-0 record at the conference championships in April.
This is the fourth-straight season that Kanagasegar has been selected to the NCAA Championships, after finishing in the round of 32 (singles draw) in 2017, 2016 and 2015 and finishing in the round of 16 (doubles draw) in 2016. This will be the first career trip to the NCAA Championships for Paolucci.
The selection of individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student athletes.
