For the third time in her career, Case Western Reserve University senior Nithya Kanagasegar was selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for women's tennis, after winning each of her two singles and doubles matches for the 18th-ranked Spartans this past weekend.
Kanagasegar played first singles in both matches, and teamed with freshman Madeleine Paolucci at first doubles throughout the weekend. In a 7-2 win over 21st-ranked Hope College on Saturday, she picked up a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win in singles play, and added ab 8-3 win in doubles action. On Sunday, during the Spartans 8-1 win over Kalamazoo College, Kanagasegar claimed victories of 8-5 doubles and 6-4, 6-2 in singles.
Kanagasegar has an 8-8 overall record in singles play, while also recording a 12-6 overall record in doubles play.
The Spartans improved to 5-2 on the year with the wins over the weekend. CWRU will now return to Cleveland for their sixth home match of the season on Saturday, March 3rd against the 37th-ranked University of Rochester. The match is slated for a 5:00 p.m. start at the Cleveland Skating Club.
