  • 11 Spartans Named to 10th-Annual UAA Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team

    Eleven Case Western Reserve University student-athletes were named to the 10th-annual University Athletic Association Presidents Council Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.

    The Case Western Reserve University men’s and women’s tennis teams each received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award, while eight members of the men’s team were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes and six members of the women’s squad were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

  • 2017-18 CWRU Women’s Tennis Season Recap

    The Spartans went 15-4 during the year, and earned six victories over teams that were nationally-ranked at the time of play. Case Western Reserve was nationally-ranked throughout the campaign and was featured as high as 15th in the poll during the course of the season, the highest-ranking in the program’s history. The team went 2-1 at the 2018 University Athletic Association Championships to finish fifth at the event.

    Just a day removed from becoming the first All-Americans in the history of the Case Western Reserve University women’s tennis program, senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci nearly pulled off an upset win in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Doubles Championships, but ultimately saw their season come to an end with a three-set loss to the top-seeded pairing in the draw on Friday night.

    Case Western Reserve University senior Nithya Kanagasegar was selected to the All-University Athletic Association Women’s Tennis First Team at first singles, while also being named to the All-UAA Second Team with freshman Madeleine Paolucci for their play at No. 1 doubles during the season. Paolucci was also selected to the All-UAA Second Team at second singles, while senior Peyton Young earned honorable mention honors at sixth singles and Young also teamed with freshman Nicole Cardwell to earn honorable mention honors at No. 2 doubles.

    The 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s tennis team began their Spring Break to Florida by defeating the University of Texas at Tyler 8-0 in Orlando, Florida on Monday. The Spartans early match against Swarthmore College was postponed due to rain and will resume play tomorrow at a time to be determined.
