CWRU Women’s Tennis Season Comes to an End at NCAA Championships

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team saw its 2017 campaign come to a conclusion on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Individual Championships.

In the singles draw, junior Nithya Kanagasegar dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to eighth-seeded Nicole Tan in the round of 32. She finished her campaign with an overall record of 9-11.

The loss brought a historic 2016-17 season for the Spartans to a close. The team, which went 17-5, was ranked as high as 18th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the highest ranking in the program's history.

The Spartans earned four All-UAA selections, including first-team honors at first singles for Kanagasegar, while also being named to the All-UAA First Team with sophomore Jessica Liu for their play at no. 1 doubles during the season. Freshman Kendal Holladay was selected to the All-UAA Second Team at second singles, and junior Nina Cepeda was tabbed All-UAA Honorable Mention for her play at no. 4 singles.
