After a week off from intercollegiate competition, the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, will return to action with road matches against Allegheny College on Saturday, March 4th at 3:30 p.m., and the University of Rochester on Sunday, March 5th at 10:00 a.m.
The Spartans have opened their spring season with a 2-1 record, including a 9-0 win against Kalamazoo College in their last outing. CWRU is ranked 20th in the ITA Preseason National Rankings, and fourth in the Central Region poll. Juniors Nithya Kanagasegar and Peyton Young and freshman Katrin Gurvich have all opened their spring seasons with 2-1 records in singles matches, while Kanagasegar and sophomore Jessica Liu have combined to go 2-1 in doubles play so far.
Saturday's match against Allegheny will be played at the Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Gators stand at 3-4 on the year, including a 6-3 win against Wittenberg in their last contest. In last season's meeting, the Spartans picked up a 9-0 win over Allegheny in Erie.
On Sunday, the Spartans will take on Rochester, ranked 18th in the Northeast Region, at the Georgen Athletic Center. The Yellowjackets stand at 1-1 after picking up a 7-2 victory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute last Sunday. Rochester is scheduled to play Union College on Saturday, before hosting the Spartans on Sunday. Last season, CWRU claimed a 7-2 win over Rochester.
