The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, opened up their 2017 spring season with a 7-0 loss against Division I opponent Cleveland State University at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on Friday evening.
The Spartans dropped to 0-1 on the campaign with the loss, while the Vikings raised their record to 2-4.
In singles, junior Nithya Kanagasegar was able to take three games in the first set and four games in the second set of first singles, but eventually fell to Isabella Spindler. Freshman Katrin Gurvich at sixth singles won four games in her second set.
Case Western Reserve will be back in action next weekend, when the team takes on 34th-ranked Hope College on Friday, February 17th, and Kalamazoo College on Saturday, February 18th at the Cleveland Skating Club.
