#22 Spartans Best Wooster for Second ‘Senior Day’ Win

The Case Western Reserve University Spartans made it a clean sweep on 'Senior Day' with a 9-0 win over the College of Wooster in their second match of the day at the Cleveland Skating Club on Sunday.

The win was the fourth-straight for the Spartans, and their second of the day, following the team's 7-2 win over 30th-ranked New York University earlier on Sunday.  Case Western Reserve improved to 11-3 overall, while Wooster dropped to 3-12 on the season.

The match also marked the final scheduled home contest in the career of each of the Spartans' five seniors – Michelle Djohan, Surya Khadilkar, Kaitlin Mills, Taylor Sweeney, and Sara Zargham.  Together, the five have helped lead the Spartans to a 47-29 record during their four seasons with the team, while pacing the squad to a national ranking as high as 19th this season.

Behind strong performances from each of the seniors, the Spartans swept all three doubles matches for the third-consecutive match and the seventh time overall this season.  Zargham and junior Jennifer Lowe opened doubles play with an 8-0 win over Katie Kuzmishin and Morgan Wagers at second doubles.  Djohan and Sweeney followed with an 8-0 win over Rachel Mole and Elizabeth Brewington at first doubles, and Khadilkar and Mills completed the sweep with an 8-1 win over Dora Mase and Anne-Sophie Haanen at third doubles.

The Spartans continued to roll during singles play, with wins in each of the six matches.  Freshman Jessica Liu claimed a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Mole in the first match, while sophomore Nina Cepeda defeated Wagers 6-3, 6-1 at second singles.  In the third match, sophomore Peyton Young bested Kuzmishin 6-1, 6-1, and Lowe added a fourth singles win over Brewington, 6-2, 6-1.  Rounding out the win, junior Kennedy Mulholland bested Haanen 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles, and Mills picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Aditi Sringeri at sixth singles.

The 9-0 win was the second shutout win in their last three matches, and their third overall this season.

The Spartans will continue their push towards the postseason next weekend, when the team heads to Chicago, Illinois for matches against ninth-ranked Washington University (Mo.) and the 15th-ranked University of Chicago.
