No. 22 Spartans Sweep #38 Oberlin, 9-0

Case Western Reserve University senior Surya Khadilkar tied the program record for career doubles wins, as the 22nd-ranked Spartans picked up a 9-0 win over 38th-ranked Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio on Friday night.

The win was the second-straight for the Spartans and the team's fifth against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.  It also marked the team's second 9-0 win of the season.  Case Western Reserve improved to 9-3 overall this year, while Oberlin fell to 9-6 for the campaign with the setback.

Khadilkar teamed with fellow senior Michelle Djohan to best Oberlin's Mayada Audeh and Jackie McDermott in the second doubles match by an 8-2 score.  The doubles victory was the 61st of Khadilkar's career, tying her with Erica Lim (2009-13) for the most in the program's history.  The win also gave Khadilkar 122 combined wins between doubles and singles play, breaking Lim's program record for total wins as well.

After Khadilkar and Djohan got the Spartans on the board, senior Sara Zargham and sophomore Nithya Kanagasegar followed with an 8-4 win at first doubles over Sarah Hughes and Emma Brezel.  Junior Jennifer Lowe and sophomore Peyton Young completed the doubles sweep for Case Western Reserve, winning 8-4 at third doubles over Ariana Abayomi and Olivia Hay.

Friday's match marked the fifth time this season that the Spartans swept all three doubles contests during a match.

Khadilkar got the Spartans off to a strong start in singles play as well with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hughes in the third match, improving to 12-0 in singles matches this season.  Sweeney followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at fourth singles over Erin Johnson, clinching the team win for Case Western Reserve.

Kanagasegar added a straight-set win against Audeh at first singles, 7-5, 6-3, and sophomore Jessica Liu extended the lead to 7-0 with a come-from-behind, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7 win against Brezel at second singles.  In the fifth singles match, sophomore Nina Cepeda notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Abayomi, and junior Kennedy Mulholland capped off the sweep with a 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 win over McDermott at sixth singles.

The Spartans will return to Cleveland for a pair of matches on Sunday, as the team will take on New York University at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 4:00 p.m. match against the College of Wooster.  Sunday will also mark 'Senior Day' for the Spartans, as the team will honor its five graduating players – Djohan, Khadilkar, Kaitlin Mills, Sweeney, and Zargham.
