#22 Women’s Tennis to Play at #38 Oberlin on Friday; Host NYU & Wooster for ‘Senior Day’ Sunday

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 22nd in Division III, will be back in action with three matches this weekend, traveling to 38th-ranked Oberlin College on Friday, April 1st for a 5:00 p.m. match, and returning home for 'Senior Day' on Sunday, April 3rd for a 9:00 a.m. contest against New York University and a 4:00 p.m. match against the College of Wooster.

On Sunday, the team will recognize its five senior players – Michelle Djohan, Surya Khadilkar, Kaitlin Mills, Taylor Sweeney and Sara Zargham – who are scheduled to be playing in the final home matches of their careers during the day.

The Spartans improved to 8-3 overall on the season, including a 2-0 record in home matches, with a 6-3 win over 23rd-ranked Denison University last Saturday.  It marked the team's fourth win in seven matches against nationally-ranked opponents this season.

Case Western Reserve was ranked 22nd in the nation and fourth in the Central Region, in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday afternoon.  The ITA also released the first updated regional individual rankings of the spring season on Thursday, with sophomore Nithya Kanagasegar checking in at fifth in the region, and sophomore Jessica Liu 18th.

Khadilkar has led the Spartans in the spring with an 11-0 singles record, and set the program record with the 61st win of her singles career last Saturday.  In addition, Khadilkar has gone 60-34 in doubles action over her career, and will enter the weekend one win shy of matching the program record for career doubles victories.

Oberlin is 9-5 on the season, including a 7-3 home record, and is currently ranked 38th in Division III and ninth in the Central Region.  The team's lineup features Mayada Audeh, who is the 24th-ranked singles player in the region.   The Spartans and the Yeowomen met twice last season, with Case Western Reserve winning each match by an 8-1 score.

NYU will enter the weekend with a 4-0 record, and will take on Oberlin on Saturday before facing the Spartans on Sunday.  The Violets are ranked 11th in the Northeast Region, and feature the region's 16th-ranked singles player in Carmen Lai, and the 10th-ranked doubles team in Lai and Flyora Shiyonova.  NYU and CWRU played in the second round of last season's University Athletic Association Tournament, with the Spartans coming away with a 6-3 victory.

Wooster stands at 3-10 on the season, and has dropped four-straight matches entering the weekend, including a 9-0 loss to Denison in their last outing.  The Fighting Scots will be in action on Friday as well, playing at Wittenberg before taking on the Spartans on Sunday.  The Spartans and the Fighting Scots last played during the 2014 season, with CWRU claiming a 9-0 win.
