The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team, ranked 21st in Division III, will play its first outdoor home tennis match of the 2016 season this weekend, when the Spartans play host to 23rd-ranked Denison University at the Carlton Courts on Saturday, March 26th at 4:00 p.m.
The Spartans stand at 7-3 on the season, following a 2-1 weekend that included 8-1 wins over Bates College and the 29th-ranked College of New Jersey, and a 6-3 loss to the 18th-ranked University of Mary Washington at the Blue-Grey Invitational in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Case Western Reserve is 1-0 in home matches this year, with the victory coming during an indoor match against Kenyon College in early February.
As a team, the Spartans have a .642 winning percentage (70-39) in singles play this year, including a .667 mark (40-20) during the spring. In doubles play, the team has a .636 overall winning percentage (35-20), with a .700 mark in spring matches (21-9).
Freshman Jessica Liu, who was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week, leads the team with a 13-4 singles record, while senior Surya Khadilkar has gone a perfect 10-0 in singles play during the spring, including a 6-0 mark in fourth-singles matches. Sophomore Nithya Kanagasegar has added a double-figure win total, with a 10-7 singles record.
Denison is 4-5 overall this season, including a 1-0 road record, and will have a match at Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday before taking on the Spartans. The Big Red lineup features singles player Meg Chiumento, ranked 50th in Division III.
