CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team concluded its 2014 fall season with an 8-1 victory over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon at the Carlton Courts.
In doubles play, junior Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and freshman Nithya Kanagasegar (Crossville, Tenn./Cumberland County) defeated Grace Porter and Jackie McDermott, 8-5 at No. 1, while junior Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) and sophomore Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) won by a score of 8-5 over Emma Brezel and Ariana Abayomi at No. 2. The Spartans finished the doubles sweep as juniors Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) and Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) beat Mayada Audeh and Olivia Hay, 8-0.
The Spartans also won five of six matches in singles competition. At No. 2, senior Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) defeated Audeh, 6-3, 6-1, while Khadilkar beat Brezel, 6-2, 6-0. Sweeney won at No. 4 by a score of 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 over McDermott, and Berchuck defeated Abayomi, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Sophomore Kennedy Mulholland scored the eighth point for the Spartans with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Johnson
CWRU is now off until after the new year. The Spartans will return to action on January 31 in a home match versus DePaul University (Ill.).
