CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 26 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team defeated University Athletic Association foe, the University of Rochester (N.Y.), by a score of 8-1 on day two of spring break trip action on the west coast.
The Spartans improve to 5-3 in dual matches this season. The match does not count towards the UAA standings.
In doubles play, sophomore Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and junior Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) defeated Molly Goodman and Christine Ho, 8-4, while freshman Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) and sophomore Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) won by a score of 8-3 over Dorthy Tai and Cara Genbauffe. The Spartans completed the doubles sweep as sophomores Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) and Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) beat Lauren Zickar and Janice Zhao, 8-2.
Five of the doubles winners won in singles competition as well. At No. 1, Bonanno defeated Tai, 6-0 7-6, while Sweeney beat Ho 6-0, 6-4. Berchuck won at No. 3 by a 6-2, 6-1 tally over Genbauffe, and Djohan won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2 over Zhao. Khadilkar scored the eighth point for the Spartans with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Goodman at No. 5.
CWRU concludes its spring break trip when it takes on host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College at 4:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12.
