SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – In the final match before its spring break trip to the west coast, the No. 25 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team swept Allegheny College (Pa.), 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Cleveland Skating Club.
In all, four Spartans (4-2) went 2-0 for the day.
Junior captain Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmontand) sophomore Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Sciences) defeated Sun Mo Koo and Andrea Brush at the first doubles, 8-3, before defeating the same pair in singles. Bonanno beat Koo 6-2, 7-6, while Zargham topped Brush 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School and Suffield Academy) and sophomore Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) also won two matches on the day. Berchuck and partner Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) bested their doubles opponents before Berchuck won 6-2, 6-1 in singles. Djohan and classmate Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) cruised to an 8-0 doubles victory. Djohan then went on to win 6-1, 6-1 in singles.
Allegheny (4-4) was unable to claim a set in the match.
CWRU next plays on Monday, March 10 against Bowdoin College (Maine) as part of its spring break trip to Claremont, California. The trip will last from March 10-12 and feature matches against Bowdoin, University of Rochester (N.Y.) and Claremont Mudd Scripps (Calif.).
