CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) each posted a pair of wins to lead the No. 30 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory versus the University of La Verne (Calif.) during spring break action at the Claremont Club.
With the victory, the Spartans improve to 8-4 overall in dual matches this season, while the Leopards, ranked No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, fall to 6-2.
In doubles action, the Spartans garnered all three points by identical 8-5 scores. The No. 2 tandem of freshman Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and senior captain Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) claimed the first point with a victory versus Laina Matsuda and Allison Moncrief. At No. 3, the duo of senior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) and sophomore Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) posted a win versus Brooke Hines and Megan Soucy.
Completing the sweep was the team of Lim and Khadilkar in the top slot with a triumph over Andrea Madrigal and Jeanette Losaria.
In singles, Khadilkar gave Case a 4-0 edge with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5. La Verne got on the board with the point at the No. 1 position, but Lim was the next to finish and secured the necessary fifth team point with a three-set victory over Losaria by scores of 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Freshman Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) garnered the sixth point at No. 6 via tallies of 6-1, 7-5, but La Verne grabbed the points at No. 4 and No. 3 for the final 6-3 team tally.
The Spartans are right back in action on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. PDT when they travel to just across town to do battle with No. 11 nationally-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
