Spartan Women Conclude Regular Season with 8-1 Victory versus Wittenberg

GAMBIER, Ohio – In a match-up of regionally-ranked programs, the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team got back on the winning path during the final match of its regular season with an 8-1 victory versus Wittenberg University on Saturday inside the KAC Indoor Courts on the campus of Kenyon College. The match was moved to a neutral location at Kenyon College due to inclement weather.

The Spartans, ranked 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region poll, conclude one of the best regular seasons in program history with a 17-4 overall record. Wittenberg, 25th in the region, falls to 11-10.

Opening with doubles action, Case raced out to a 3-0 lead as the No. 1 duo of junior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman sister Alexandra Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union), ranked as the No. 5 tandem regionally, earned an 8-2 victory versus Leah Ann Miller and Georgia Bennett. At No. 2, junior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) and freshman Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) were victorious by an identical 8-2 score versus Wittenberg's Kristin Wright and Anne Beauch, while the No. 3 team of junior Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) edged past Maggie Stewart and Jackie Stevens, 8-6.

During singles play, Case won five-of-six singles matches all in straight-sets. Erika Lim, the region's No. 5-ranked player, bested Miller by a 6-3, 6-0 count, while Bonanno took the point easily at No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-0 tally over Alex Cummins.

Alexandra Lim, playing No. 3 for the first time in her career, won by a 6-2, 6-1 count. Patel came out with a victory at No. 4 (6-0, 6-3) and Evers collected the fifth singles' point for the Spartans at No. 5 in a pro-set victory (8-0).

With the regular season complete, the Spartans will now set their sights on the University Athletic Association Championship, which runs this Thursday-Saturday, April 26-28 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
