CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team recorded its fifth 9-0 dual match victory of the season by sweeping Allegheny College (Pa.) late Saturday evening in a non-conference affair at the Cleveland Skating Club.
The Spartans move to 8-2 overall and will have a week off from competition before its annual Spring Break Trip that opens against Agnes Scott College (Ga.) on Saturday, March 10 at 9:00 a.m. and Birmingham Southern College later that day at 3:00 p.m.
Against the Gators, Case quickly gained a 3-0 lead during doubles action. The No. 1 tandem of junior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman sister Alexandra Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) were pushed to the limit but edged out a 9-7 victory; the No. 2 team of junior Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) were victorious by an 8-2 tally; and the No. 3 duo of freshman Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) and junior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) picked up an 8-4 win.
In singles play, the Spartans picked up six straight-set wins. Erika Lim led off at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), Bonanno followed at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2) and Pham cruised at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0). Additionally, Alexandra Lim was tested but came out victorious at No. 4 (7-6 (3), 6-4), Evers won at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Patel sealed the sweep at No. 6 (6-3, 6-0).
