Spartan Women Outlast Regional Foe Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – In a match-up of regionally-ranked programs, the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory at Oberlin College late Friday night at the John W. Heisman Fieldhouse.

The Spartans, ranked 14th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, improve to 7-2 overall. Oberlin, 19th in the region, falls to 5-4.

Opening with doubles action, Case took a 2-1 lead as the No. 1 duo of junior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman sister Alexandra Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) earned an 8-6 victory versus Finley Gates and Grace Porter.

Oberlin won at No. 2, but junior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) and freshman Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) won 8-3 versus Brenna Sheldon and Preeya Shah at No. 3.

In singles play, Alex Lim at No. 4 and Pham at No. 3 increased the Spartan lead to 4-1 with straight-set victories. Oberlin stayed alive with a decision at No. 1, but Bonanno would put the match away with a 7-5, 6-2 win versus Sheldon at No. 2.

The Spartans are right back in action on Saturday, March 3 versus Allegheny College (Pa.) at 6:00 p.m. at the Cleveland Skating Club.
