SKILLMAN, N.J. – The first Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings of 2011-12 have been released, and the Case Western Reserve University women are regionally-ranked for just the second time in program history.
The Spartans, 3-0 during fall dual matches, are ranked No. 14 in a powerful Central Region.
In addition, junior No. 1 singles player Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) is ranked No. 2 in the singles poll – the highest individual ranking in program history. Erika and freshman sister Alexandra Lim are tabbed at No. 7 in doubles play – also a program-best.
"Much like our men, our women have come so far as a program," said Head Coach Todd Wojtkowski. "To get back into the regional rankings with such a young roster and to have Erika and Alexandra earn such high positions in the polls is truly a testament to how hard these women have worked. We are in a great position to make a run this spring."
Erika Lim was 8-3 during the fall and finished runner-up during the United States Tennis Association/ITA Central Region Championship. Erika Lim also earned University Athletic Association Player of the Week status on October 10.
The Lim sisters posted a 6-4 mark in fall action, including a 3-1 performance during the regional championship.
The Spartans' 11-woman roster consists of seven freshmen, two sophomores and two juniors.
Freshman Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) was second on the squad during the fall with seven singles wins (7-3 overall). Freshman Angie Korpusik (Campbell, Calif./Presentation) and junior captain Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) checked in at 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.
The Spartans open the 2012 portion of the schedule on Friday, February 10 versus Kenyon College at 7:30 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio. Case also plays North Carolina Wesleyan University that weekend in Gambier on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
